VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - This past weekend, the Penn State fencers headed to Virginia Beach, Va. to compete in the NAC Div. 1 Juniors competition. The competition was held all weekend long and the fencers returned back to University Park today.
On Friday, freshman Jessie Radanovich (Frisco, Calif.) competed and finished 3rd in the women's epee competition while sophomore Jessica O'Neil Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.) finished 35th for the day.
Senior Jeremy Goldstein (Westport, Conn.), freshman Howie Chan (Hong Kong) and junior David Gomez-Tanamachi (Mexico City, Mexico) all competed in Division 1 men's foil and took home 14th, 28th, and 41st place, respectively.
Two fencers had stand out performances in the Junior men's saber competition. Sophomore Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.) came out 10th while freshman Adam Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.) took home 17th.
On Saturday, competition continued with senior captain Nicole Glon (State College, Pa.) taking home 6th place in her competition of Women's Saber. Freshman Teodara Kakhiani (Tbilsi, Georgia) also competed in women's saber and placed 50th in the competition.
In the Division 1 men's epee competition, sophomore Oskar Tang (Stockholm, Sweden) finished 60th for the day. Two Penn State fencers' senior Ben Freiman (The Woodlands, Texas) and freshman Patrick August (Las Vegas, Nev.) competed as independents and finished 66th and 218th, respectively.
Junior Alina Antokhina (Moscow, Russia) took home 20th place in her competition of junior women's foil. Three Penn State freshmen fencers' Daniella Ortiz (Bayside, N.Y), Desree Ortega-Furgeson, (Wyoming, Mich.) and Elana Dickman (Denville, N.J.) all competed independently in the event and finished 58th, 59yh, and 99th, respectively.
On Sunday, Penn State saw great action from freshman Howie Chan who finished 8th in junior men's foil.
Sophomore Jessical O'Neil-Lyublinsky and freshman Jessie Radanovich both competed well in the Division 1 women's epee competition and finished 9th and 10th, respectively.
Senior Adrian Bak (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) competed in Division 1 men's saber and finished 11th for the day while sophomore Kaito Streets finished 17th, and freshman Adam Lewicki finished 18th. Junior Pawel Puchalski (Lake Forest, Ill.) also competed and placed 125th for the day. Fencing independently, junior Michael Brand, freshman David Akrami (Plano, Texas) and Gaspar Lesznik (Wyckoff, N.J.) placed 73rd, 134th, and 161st, respectively.
On Monday, freshman Patrick August fenced independently and placed 153rd in junior men's epee.
Sophomore Clarisse Luminet (Lyon, France) finished 17th in Division 1 women's foil while junior Alina Antokhina finished 28th for the day. Freshmen Daniella Ortiz and Desree Ortega-Furgeson competed independently in the event and placed 64th and 66th respectively.
Penn State fencing returns to action this weekend on Sunday, January 26th at St. John's University.
