Player Profile: Alex Fennell

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Each week throughout the 2014 spring season, we will feature a member of the Penn State men's tennis team in our "Player Profile" series. This week, we feature freshman Alex Fennell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa). Fennell went 4-3 this fall in singles and 5-3 in doubles, while competing at the ITA All-American Championships, Wake Forest Invite and ITA Atlantic Regional. The Nittany Lions open their spring schedule this weekend, January 24-26, when they host William & Mary on Friday at 3 p.m. and St. John's on Sunday at noon.

Why did you come to Penn State? The mix of high athletic and academic standards.

What are your plans after you graduate? Try to play professionally and go into coaching or physical training.

How long have you been playing tennis? 10 years

Nicknames: Afen, Fennell

Pregame rituals/superstitions: I don't look at the draw. I only look for when and where I'm playing.

Hobbies: Woodworking, rapping, bird watching, antiquing, drinking protein shakes and writing poetry

Hidden Talent/Something people don't know about you: Every year of high school I was at a different school.

Favorite place to eat on campus: Pollock Dining Hall

What are you most looking forward to this season? The competition, travelling with the team, high level of play and competing in the NCAAs.
