SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Penn State women's hockey suffered a tough 3-0 loss at Syracuse Saturday afternoon in Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange scored once in each period and Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) saved 35 for Penn State.

The Nittany Lions (4-19-2, 1-11-0 CHA) were swept for the second time this season by Syracuse (14-9-2, 6-4-2 CHA). Margo Scharfe, Melissa Piacentini and Allie LaCombe tallied markers for the Orange.

Scharfe's first-period tally came off feeds from Piacentini and Renault with 4:21 remaining. Shots were 9-5 for Syracuse in the opening frame. On the final power play of the period, PSU's Emily Laurenzi (Townsend, Del.) dinged the pipe that would've tied the score.

In the second, the Orange controlled the pace of play and cashed in on Piacentini's third goal of the weekend with 9:19 remaining. The goal was assisted by Danielle Leslie.

Syracuse jumped on Penn State just 19 seconds into the final frame as LaCombe put away her seventh goal of the year helped by Brittney Krebs and Scharfe. Orange goaltender Jenesica Drinkwater made 16 saves for the shutout.

Each team went 0-for-6 on the power play and Penn State held a 30-27 edge in faceoff victories. Laurenzi went 7-4 following an 11-3 record on Friday night, while Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) was 6-2.

Penn State wraps up its three-game road trip with a non-conference tilt at Princeton Tuesday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Action kicks off at 7 PM.
