COLUMBUS, Ohio; March 1, 2014 - The No. 23 Penn State swimming team will send four swimmers to the NCAA Last Chance meet on the Ohio State campus this Sunday. Mackenzie Hornibrook (West Chester, Pa.), Carolyn Fittin (Sea Girt, N.J.), Chelsea Weedman (Poway, Calif.) and Katie Rowe (Glenville, N.Y.) will be competing in a total of five events with hopes of earning an automatic bid to next month's NCAA Championships.
Hornibrook will be competing in three different events for the Lions as she attempts to trim her times in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. The freshman showed great improvement at last week's Big Ten Championships, registering season-best marks in each of her events. Hornibrook clipped over a second off of her time in the 100 free, clocking in at 50.98, and registered personal bests of 23.33 and 55.16 in the 50 free and 100 fly, respectively.
Fittin, who has already secured a trip to the NCAA Championships as a member of four different relays, will be looking to improve upon her time in the 50 free and collect her first individual NCAA qualification. The junior posted a season-best mark of 22.55 in the event at the Big Ten Championships last week and is .56 second short of hitting the NCAA "A" qualifying mark.
Weedman will also compete in multiple events on Sunday as she aims to improve her marks in the 200 fly and the 200 IM. The senior has already hit the NCAA "B" mark in each of her events, turning in a season-best time of 1:58.37 in the 200 fly and 1:58.93 in the 200 IM.
Rowe recorded three top ten finishes last week, including a runner-up effort in the 200 fly. The sophomore notched a career-best mark of 1:56.80 in the event and will be looking to trim additional time off on Sunday.
The meet will run all day at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the Ohio State University campus.
