UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State guard Tim Frazier will participate in the 2014 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this week, showcasing his skills to professional scouts from every NBA team as well as several international leagues.
Established in 1953, the Invitational features 64 of the top senior college basketball players who participate in a 12-game tournament over a four-day span. Frazier is set to compete for the Norfolk Sports Club team which also includes Northwestern's Drew Crawford.
Frazier completed his career with the Nittany Lions as the all-time leader in career assists (641) and as the seventh-leading scorer in Penn State history with 1,543 points. He owns three of the Top 10 spots in single-season assists in Happy Valley, including the No. 1 total (198, 2012). Frazier's totals reflect excellence among the Big Ten ranks as well, as the two-time all-conference selection became just the second Big Ten player to reach 1,500 points, 600 assists and 500 rebounds (523) in his career.
Games begin Wednesday evening at Churchland High School Sports Complex in Portsmouth, Va., and continue through Saturday. Frazier and the Norfolk Sports Club open play vs. K & D Round's Landscaping at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Over the years the P.I.T. has been a showcase for five of the 50 greatest players in NBA History (Rick Barry, Earl `The Pearl" Monroe, Dave Cowens, John Stockton, Scottie Pippen) and for many others who have gone on to NBA stardom.
