Printable 2014 Penn State Women's Volleyball Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Old foes and familiar faces highlight the 2014 Penn State women's volleyball schedule, released by Nittany Lion head coach Russ Rose this morning.

In addition to matchups with 11 teams that made the NCAA tournament in 2013, a homecoming awaits four former Nittany Lions who are currently at the helm of their own women's volleyball programs. Of the 11 teams that competed in last year's post season tournament, nine finished the season either ranked or receiving votes in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches' Poll.

For the second consecutive year, Penn State kicks off the 2014 campaign at home, hosting Big 12 opponent TCU (16-15), Iona (16-14) and William and Mary (11-21) in the Penn State Classic, Aug. 29-30.

The Nittany Lions then travel across the country to compete in the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge. In a rematch of the 2013 Lexington NCAA regional finals, PSU squares off against the tournament host Cardinal (27-6), Friday, Sept. 5 before taking on UCLA (15-15) the following evening.

Next up, Penn State returns to Pennsylvania but remains on the road, traveling to the Villanova Classic, Sept. 12-13. Aside from a tilt with the Wildcats, the Nittany Lions also take on a trio of 2013 NCAA tournament teams in the two-day event, including American (34-3), Yale (25-14) and Kansas (25-8).

PSU wraps up its non-conference slate at home, welcoming four different schools coached by former Nittany Lion alums in the Penn State Alumni Classic, including Eastern Illinois (Kate Price '08), DePaul (Nadia Edwards '01), University of Illinois-Chicago (Katie Schumacher-Cawley '02) and East Carolina (Julie Torbett '90). PSU takes on EIU and DePaul in a doubleheader Friday, Sept. 19 before concluding the event with a matchup against ECU Saturday, Sept. 20.

Penn State begins Big Ten Conference competition with a 2013 NCAA national championship rematch, traveling to Wisconsin to face the Badgers (28-10) in a midweek matchup set for Wednesday Sept. 24. Heading into the weekend, the Nittany Lions remain on the road, traveling to Minnesota (29-7) to square off against the Golden Gophers Saturday, Sept. 27.

The Nittany Lions meet their third consecutive 2013 NCAA tournament conference squad the following week, as they look to claim another win on the road at Nebraska (26-7) Friday, Oct. 3 in the newly renovated Devaney Center. PSU makes one more road trip to Iowa (11-21) Saturday, Oct. 4 before returning home for some more conference action.

Northwestern (16-16) and Illinois (18-15) travel to Rec Hall for Penn State's Big Ten home opener Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Friday, Oct. 10. Following a brief trip to Purdue and Indiana, Penn State hosts Michigan (23-12) and Michigan State (23-12) Oct. 24-25, before trading a home-and-away with Ohio State Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Friday, Oct. 31, respectively.

Rutgers and Maryland will make their first trip to Penn State Nov. 7-8, kicking off a four-match homestand that ends with a pair of matches against Iowa and Minnesota Wednesday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 15.

The Nittany Lions hit the road for three consecutive matches at Michigan, Maryland and Northwestern, Nov.19-26, before returning home to cap off the 2014 regular season with a match against the Huskers Saturday, Nov. 29.
