June 27, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State guard D.J. Newbill (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been invited to attend the Kevin Durant Skills Academy in Washington, D.C. this weekend. Hosted by 2014 NBA MVP, Durant has invited an elite group to his annual academy, featuring the top 15 collegiate wing players and the top 30 high school players from across the country.

Newbill recently capped off a standout junior campaign, leading the Nittany Lions in scoring with 17.8 points per game. The Philadelphia native finished second in the conference in scoring on the way to Second Team All-Big Ten and NABC All-District honors. The 2014 Team MVP also surpassed the 1,000-point mark to become the third Nittany Lion in program history to post back-to-back seasons with 500 points.

He was also instrumental in both of Penn State's victories against Ohio State this season, marking the first time the Nittany Lions have swept the Buckeyes since 1998. He combined for 48 points in both meetings, including the game-tying and winning field goals January 29 in Columbus, Ohio.

Newbill is the first Nittany Lion in program history to be invited to the Kevin Durant Skills Academy.
