UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Redshirt senior defenseman Patrick Koudys (Smithville, Ontario) has been named captain of the 2014-15 Penn State men's hockey team, head coach Guy Gadowsky announced Friday.
In addition, redshirt senior defenseman Nate Jensen (Shorewood, Minn.) and junior forward David Glen (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta) will reprise their roles as assistant captains.
"We have a tremendous leadership group for the 2014-15 season and the addition of Patrick Koudys as captain will make it even stronger," said Gadowsky. "The group is a consummate representation of the hard work and dedication seen throughout Penn State University, Penn State Athletics and the hockey program."
Koudys joined the Nittany Lion blue line for the 2013-14 season and made an immediate impact during his first season with the Blue and White. The 6-foot-3 defenseman appeared in all 36 games - one of only four Nittany Lions to accomplish the feat - and totaled a career-high eight points (2g, 6a). The Smithville, Ontario, native, who often matched up against the opposition's top players, finished the season ranked fourth in the Big Ten with 79 blocked shots.
Jensen, who will serve as an assistant captain for the third straight season in 2014-15, collected 10 points, including a career-high three goals, during the 2013-14 campaign. The Shorewood, Minnesota, native, who netted the first goal at Pegula Ice Arena in a 4-1 win against Army Oct. 11, has totaled 19 points (5g, 14a) in 50 career games in the Blue and White.
In 2013-14, Glen, who was named a Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award recipient, collected nine points (3g, 6a) in 32 games. The forward led the team with a plus-3 rating and was fourth in the Big Ten with a .569 faceoff winning percentage. The rising junior, who served as an assistant captain in 2013-14, missed three games this past season after undergoing a bone marrow donation procedure. The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, native has collected 34 points (19g, 15a) in 59 career games.
