Chicago, Ill. - Four women's soccer players will have the opportunity to represent the Blue and White on the international stage. Brittany Basinger, Rose Chandler and Emily Ogle will compete for spots on the U.S. Under-20 and Under-18 Women's National Teams and Raquel Rodriguez is a member of the Costa Rican Women's National Team.
Sophomore Brittany Basinger (Purcellville, Va.) and incoming freshman Rose Chandler (Atlanta, Ga.) are currently in Seattle, Wash., for a two-week training camp with the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team. The camp is the final event before the 21-person roster competing at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup is announced. The 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, hosted by Canada, occurs August 5-24. Penn State Head Coach Erica Walshis an assistant coach for the U.S. U-20 WNT.
As a member of the U.S. U-20 WNT, Basinger and Walsh claimed the 2014 Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) championship in January.
Incoming freshmen Emily Ogle(Strongsville, Ohio) earned an invitation to a U.S. U-18 WNT training camp in Mexico City July 22-28. The training camp identifies future members of the U.S. U-20 WNT that will compete at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in South Africa.
The three players aren't the only Nittany Lions competing at the international level. Junior Raquel Rodriguez(San Jose, Costa Rica) is a member of the Costa Rican Women's National Team and, if the team qualifies, will play in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, also hosted by Canada.
