UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - With the help of a last-minute goal, the Penn State field hockey team tied Delaware, 2-2, in exhibition play Saturday. The teams played a regulation match of two 35-minute halves and also took part in two rounds of shootouts following the contest.
"Today's game was highly competitive for 70 minutes," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss. "We grew throughout the game and were able to get a lot of the younger players some experience. This game will truly help us prepare for Old Dominion on Friday."
Down 2-1 with under a minute to play, the Nittany Lions were awarded a penalty corner. With just 42 seconds on the clock, senior Amanda Dinunzio (State College, Pa.) came up with the ball and put it in the back of the cage to knot it up.
The Blue Hens got on the board first 13:09 into the game. With 5:27 remaining in the first half, senior Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.) drove in from the left side of the goal and fired one in from about 15 yards out.
Prior to Dinunzio's game-tying goal in the final minute, Delaware's Jacki Coveleski had scored the only goal of the second half with 21:15 to go.
Senior goalkeeper Kylie Licata (Mountain Top, Pa.) made three saves in the game.
