NEW ORLEANS - For the first time since the 2010 cross country season, the Penn State men's cross country team is ranked in the NCAA Division I Cross Country National Coaches Poll. The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the latest NCAA Division I Cross Country National Polls Tuesday. The men move into the No. 30 spot with 15 votes, while the women hold steady at No. 27 (52 votes).
With the men's appearance in the rankings today, this marks the first time since Nov. 16, 2010, that both Penn State cross country teams are represented in the USTFCCCA National Polls at the same time. At the 2010 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, the Penn State men finished 30th and the women placed 26th.
The majority of both national polls remained the same from last week as this past weekend was the final weekend of meets not counting towards the NCAA Championships. The countable season begins this weekend with major meets across the nation taking place. Penn State does not compete this weekend as they are getting ready for the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3, in South Bend, Ind.
Both Nittany Lion cross country teams stayed put in the No. 3 spot in the Mid-Atlantic Region rankings.
