UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's and women's cross country teams finished first and second, respectively, Saturday at the Penn State National held at the Blue-White Golf Course. Brannon Kidder (Lancaster, Ohio) tallied a third-place finish in the men's race and Lauren Mills (West Chester, Pa.) placed eighth for the women.
Kidder and Austin Pondel (Columbus, Pa.) both finished in the top-five to lead the Nittany Lion men to a first-place showing. Kidder completed the 5.2-mile course in a time of 26 minutes, 46 seconds to finish third and Pondel crossed the finish line 10 seconds later to place fourth (26:56).
Along with Kidder and Pondel, Bobby Hill (Wellsboro, Pa.) and Conrad Lippert (Middletown, N.J.) both tallied top-15 finishes at the Blue-White Golf Course. Hill finished eighth with his time of 27:19 and Lippert took 11th with a final time of 27:47. Rounding out the scoring for the Nittany Lion men was Jack Miller (Bay Village, Ohio). Miller went on to place 26th with his overall time of 28:46.
In the women's race, Mills and Cara Ulizio (Redondo Beach, Calif.) both tallied top-10 finishes. Mills and Ulizio crossed the finish line within one second of each other to place eighth (22:40) and ninth (22:41), respectively.
Fifteen seconds after Ulizio finished the 6k course, freshman Hannah Catalano (State College, Pa.) completed the race with her 13th-place finish (22:56).
Finishing inside the top-20 for the Nittany Lions were Megan Hellman (Rumson, N.J.) and Julie Kocjancic (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Hellman posted a time of 23:23 to place 17th and Kocjancic was the fifth Nittany Lion to finish the race with her 19th-place finish (23:45).
As a team, the Penn State men won the meet with their score of 40 points, while Duquesne (42) and Temple (44) finished second and third, respectively.
Duquesne won the women's race with their score of 25 points, while the Penn State women finished second (60). Also in the women's race, Towson finished third (77) and Temple took fourth (79).
With the highly competitive Pre-National Invitational looming next weekend (Oct. 18) in Terre Haute, Ind., the Penn State cross country teams held out many of their top runners today at the Penn State National as they prepare for next weekend.
