UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team couldn't crack a stifling Quinnipiac defense and fell to the No. 8 Bobcats on Saturday, 3-0.
The Bobcats (2-0-0) got on the board with just 39 seconds left in the opening period. Lindsey West's wrist shot from the left point gave Quinnipiac the 1-0 lead.
Quinnipiac converted a powerplay to net its second of the game 10:23 in to the second, thanks to Cydney Roesler's wrister. Taylar Cianfarano collected on a rebound almost four minutes later for the 3-0 score.
After the goal, Penn State (1-2-0) forced Quinnipiac goaltender Chelsea Laden to make four saves on shots by Hannah Bramm (Tampa, Fla.), Bella Sutton (Shoreview, Minn.) and Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) before the period's end.
In the game, the Bobcats held the Nittany Lions to just 10 shots on goal, all of which came in the first two periods.
