UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Behind Hannah Ehresmann's 45 saves and Amy Petersen's game-tying goal 3:10 into the third, the Penn State women's hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with No. 8 Quinnipiac on Sunday.

"I'm really proud of this group for a total team effort as it relates to consistency and response," head coach Josh Brandwene said. "We had a great response when we faced adversity and I saw a lot of growth for this hockey team that continues to evolve and get better every day."

In the second period, the Bobcats (2-0-1) threw a barrage of shots at Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.), forcing the freshman to make 21 saves in the stanza. But down a player midway through the second, Shiann Darkangelo put Quinnipiac on the board at 12:20.

The Nittany Lions (1-2-1) returned from the second intermission with renewed vigor and just over three minutes into the third, they knotted the score. Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) fed a pass from the top of the farside circle to Amy Petersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) stationed at the nearside post. The sophomore lifted a shot into Sydney Rossman's pads, but collected the rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

In overtime, Quinnipiac outshot Penn State, 3-1, and the Nittany Lions won the faceoff battle, 4-1, but neither team could break through for the final 1-1 score.

Ehresmann (1-0-1) was a wall in net during the game, stopping 45 shots. She was helped by 23 blocked shots, a season-best, including Sarah Nielsen's team-high six.

Penn State travels to Union next weekend for games against the Dutchwomen on Fri., Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. and Sat., Oct. 18 at 2 p.m.
