UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - In its final regular season game of 2014, the No. 5 Penn State field hockey team hosts No. 8 Northwestern at the Field Hockey Complex Friday at 3:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
All fans are encouraged to park in the East Parking Deck. Also, fans are reminded that all bags that are brought into the facility are subject to inspection at any time.

Northwestern Notes
- The Wildcats, ranked No. 8 in the most recent NFHCA Poll, are 12-5 this season with a 6-1 mark in conference play. Northwestern is tied with Maryland atop the Big Ten standings.
- Northwestern's only league loss came to No. 14 Michigan on Oct. 17. The Wildcats are the only team in the conference to beat Maryland, downing the second-ranked Terrapins, 3-2, on Sept. 20.
- Offensively, Northwestern is 11th nationally with 8.65 points per game. Dominique Masters and Isabel Flens are tied for the team lead with 28 points apiece. Masters has 11 goals and six assists, while Flens has 10 goals and eight assists. Charlotte Martin is 12th nationally, averaging 0.76 assists per game.
- Defensively, the Wildcats rank 11th nationally with a 1.30 goals against average.
- Tracey Fuchs is in her sixth season as the head coach.
Series History
Penn State is 27-5-1 all-time against Northwestern. Last season, the Nittany Lions picked up a 2-0 win against the 10th-ranked Wildcats. Penn State has won three of the last four matchups in a series that dates back to 1992.
Last Time Out
Despite holding an advantage in shots and corners, the No. 4 Penn State field hockey team fell at No. 15 Iowa, 4-0, on Oct. 25. The Nittany Lions outshot the Hawkeyes, 16-11, and held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunities.
Atop the Attendance List
Penn State is third nationally in total attendance this season, having 3,879 fans watch its home games, averaging 431 per contest. The only teams ahead of Penn State are Michigan at No. 2 and Maryland at No. 1.
Herold Moving up Goals List
Senior Taylor Herold (Fredericksburg, Va.) reached the 100-point mark with a goal and two assists at Ohio State (Sept. 28), to reach the 100 career point mark. She now has 50 goals and 16 assists for her career, giving her 116 career points. Her 50 goals are tied for ninth on Penn State's all-time list with head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss. Herold is five goals away from being tied for eighth with 55.
Herold's Heroics
Herold posted three goals, all in the second half, against No. 14 Princeton on Sept. 12. It marked her first career hat trick. Against Ohio State (Sept. 28), she had a career-high two assists. Scoring a goal in nine of the last 11 games, she is first on the team with 39 points, 16 goals and seven assists. Herold has four multi-goal games this season. The senior ranks seventh nationally in goals per game (0.94).
Gebhart on the Assist
Currently, senior Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) has 44 assists, which are two away from tying her for seventh on Penn State's all-time list and three from tying her for sixth. She is second on the team with six assists. She has started all 80 games she has played in since arriving on campus as a freshman.
The Katies Hold Down the Defense
Senior backs Katie Andrews (Lancaster, Pa.) and Katie Breneman (Washington Boro, Pa.) lead a defense that is 13th nationally with a 1.34 goals against average. Breneman has started 58 games in her career and Andrews has started 47. This season, Andrews has played 70-plus minutes on 16 occasions, while Breneman has done it 15 times in 17games.
Coming up with Corners
The Nittany Lions ranked seventh nationally with 8.06 penalty corners per game. The squad has had 12 or more on four separate occasions, including a season-high 16 against Lock Haven.
