Third Annual Stuff a Bus For Central Pa. Food Bank Set For This Weekend Near Beaver Stadium

Nov. 13, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Athletics is again teaming with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to conduct a canned food drive surrounding the the November 15 football game with Temple.

The Third annual Stuff a Bus Food Drive will begin Friday, Nov. 14 at 12 p.m. and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. The bus will be parked in front of the Bryce Jordan Center, near the marquee, this weekend to accept canned goods.

Coach James Franklin's Nittany Lions (5-4) defeated Indiana last week and host Temple (5-4) this Saturday at 12 p.m. for Military Appreciation Day.

Centre County residents, Penn State students, staff and all Penn State fans are encouraged to "Stuff a Bus," with non-perishable goods. The goal is to stuff the bus with 10,000 pounds of grocery products that will be available for distribution, with Thanksgiving less than two weeks away.

Approximately 1.9 million people in Pennsylvania, one in six, are struggling with hunger, and the number continues to rise. "More and more families are facing hunger in central PA," said Joe Arthur, executive director, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. "Donations from the community, like the Stuff a Bus Food Drive, are essential for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to continue to provide vital nutrition to the individuals and families seeking food assistance."

Stuff a Bus is sponsored by Penn State Athletics, Weis Markets and Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

On Saturday, fans attending the Temple game can drop off canned goods prior to entering Beaver Stadium at the following locations:

- Bryce Jordan Center (Curtin Road and University Drive)

- Medlar Field at Lubrano Park (Porter Road and Curtin Road)

- Jeffrey Field (University Drive and East Park Avenue)

- Central PA Convention and Visitors Bureau; corner of Park Avenue and Porter Road

(Across the street from Beaver Stadium)

The Beaver Stadium parking lots will open at 7 a.m. for the Temple game, the team arrival is at 9:30 a.m. and the public gates open at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to Stuff a Bus this weekend, Penn State alumni and fans have purchased nearly 6,000 tickets for the "Seats For Soldiers" program that will be donated to active duty and veteran military personnel and their families for the Temple. This year's donated ticket total is more than double the 2,500 total sold in 2013.

ROTC elite, active duty, Wounded Warriors and veterans will be honored for their service to our country throughout the Penn State-Temple game.
