Penn State Fencing to Host 42nd Annual Garret Open

Nov. 21, 2014

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State fencing team will host the 42nd annual Garret Penn State Open on Saturday and Sunday Nov. 22-23. Action will take place in the White Building, and is set to begin at 8 a.m. both days.

The event will bring together 12 schools from all over the United States and will give the Nittany Lions a chance to compete against some of the country's most elite fencers. Schools set to compete include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Temple, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Long Island University, CCNY, and Brown University.

Penn State is led this year by team captains Kaito Streets (Redwood City, Calif.) and Clarisse Luminet (Lyon, France). Streets is the current defending Men's Saber 2014 NCAA Champion, and a 2014 All-American. Luminet is a two-time All-American who placed second at the 2014 NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals and 7th at the 2014 NCAA Championships.

The Lions are coming off of a solid 2013-14 season in which they brought home the program's 13th NCAA National Championship. Head Coach Wes Glon's team is in search of their 14th National Title this year, which would be the fourth in six years (2009, 2010, 2014).

Results from this weekend's event will be posted here on GoPSUsports.com at the conclusion of each day's action. Penn State Fans are encouraged to follow Penn State fencing via twitter at www.twitter.com/PennStateFen and on Penn State Fencing's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pennstatefencing.
