UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Nov. 22, 2014 - Penn State struck just over a minute into its College Hockey America (CHA) game with Lindenwood but were unable to come out on top of a staunch defense battle with the Lions, falling 2-1 on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions (7-6-3, 2-3-1 CHA) got the game's first score 1:12 in. Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson Hills, Mich.) collected the puck at center ice, streaked down the nearside boards and wristed it from the circle to put Penn State up 1-0. The marker, her sixth of the year, was her second in as many games.
The Lions (4-7-1, 3-2-1 CHA) knotted the score in the second period. Shara Jasper scooped up the rebound of a Lyndsay Kirkham shot in front of the net with 4:45 remaining in the frame.
Lindenwood's gamewinner came with a little over four minutes left in regulation. Brita Gillanders skated in from center ice, skirted through a group of players and passed it to West at the farside post. West then knocked it past Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) for the final 2-1 tally.
Ehresmann made 22 saves in the loss, as her record fell to 3-2-3.
The Nittany Lions are off next week before traveling to Robert Morris on Dec. 5 and 6 for the two-game CHA set.
