UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State travels to Marshall for the first time since 1992 to take on the Herd at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Cam Henderson Center. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, as well as on the radio through the Penn State Sports Network.

Penn State owns wins in all six games of the series, including a 13-point victory, 90-77, last season in Happy Valley. All five starters turned in double figure scoring efforts in the win.

QUICK HITS
  • The Nittany Lions (7-1) have won each of their last five games, after clipping Virginia Tech, 61-58, in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge Wednesday night [RECAP] and are off to the best start since the 2008-09 season.
  • The win over the Hokies was the seventh of the eight Big Ten wins needed to capture the Challenge title, giving the title to the league for the sixth-consecutive season.
  • At five games, Penn State has the longest winning streak among all 14 big Ten teams and is tied with Maryland for the highest win percentage.
  • Through eight games, Penn State has had three decided by one possession, winning each of them. Last season, the Lions had eight games decided by three points or fewer in the regular season. They lost each of the first five and won the last three, giving them a six-game win streak in regular-season one-possession games.
  • The Lions are outscoring opponents 316-269 (+47) in the second frame through eight games this season. They have battled back from second-half deficits of 14 (Akron), 13 (Cornell), 8 (Virginia Tech) and 6 (Southern California) in recent wins.

  • With 1,301 career points at Penn State, Newbill needs 10 to take over the No. 14 spot from John Amaechi (1,310; 1993-95) in all-time career points. Amaechi's point total is the record among players to spend just three years in the Blue and White.
  • Newbill earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors Monday after producing 28.5 ppg and 5.6 rpg in the Lions' wins over Akron and at Bucknell.
  • Ross Travis is fourth in the Big Ten in rebounding with 7.8 per game after a 10-carmon outing vs. Virginia Tech. He is 13th all-time at Penn State and with his career average produced this season, will end up in the Top 3.
  • Shep Garner is second on the team in both scoring (11.1 ppg) and assists (1.9 apg) as a freshman. He has scored 10+ in all but two games this season. Garner is shooting 42 percent from behind the arc and 92 percent from the charity stripe with his lone FT miss (12-13) being on purpose to run tim off the clock vs. USC.
