Men's Gymnastics Tallies Five Individual Titles at West Point Open

West Point Open Day Two Results

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 6 Penn State men's gymnastics team wrapped up action Saturday in the individual finals portion of the West Point Open at Christl Arena. The Nittany Lions won five individual titles on the evening.

"It was great effort this weekend and I am very proud of our team," head coach Randy Jepson said. "I am glad we are pretty healthy, but at this point I am pleased with what I have seen."

Last night, the No. 6 Nittany Lions tallied their second consecutive team title with their score of 439.400, followed by No.12 Army (416.150) and No. 15 Navy (409.200). No. 17 Springfield College (405.300) and No. 18 Temple (402.050) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

After posting the second-best score in the high bar (14.800) last night, Matthew Felleman (Medway, Mass.) secured his second high bar title of 2015 with his score of 15.100 in the finals. Also in the high bar, Ismael Sanabria (Caguas, Puerto Rico) placed second with a score of 14.300.

Leroy Clarke, Jr. (Maplewood, N.J.), finished second in the still rings with (15.000), third in the high bar (13.700) and third the parallel bars (14.050).

In the vault, Tristan Duverglas (West Orange, N.J.) captured his first title of the season with his score of 14.900. Duverglas also finished third in the still rings with his score of 14.400.

Alexis Torres (Catano, Puerto Rico) captured his second still rings title of this young season with his career-best score of 15.950. His score tonight moves him to seventh all-time at Penn State.

In the floor exercise event, Penn State took the top two spots with Thad Lawson (Chesapeake, Va.) finishing first. Lawson posted a score of 15.300 followed by Jeremy Munn (York, Maine) posting a score of 14.600 to finish second.

After making his season-debut last night, Craig Hernandez (Libertyville, Ill.) captured his first pommel horse victory of 2015 with his score of 15.300.

The Nittany Lion men return home next Saturday to face Michigan on at 4 p.m. The meet will be a double-dual meet with the women's program facing Maryland.
