Durham, N.H.; Jan. 23, 2015 - The Penn State women's hockey team was edged by New Hampshire, 2-0, in a non-conference match-up on Friday.

Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) nearly put Penn State (12-10-3, 7-4-1 CHA) on the board four minutes into the second period. She threw the puck on Vilma Vaattovaara's net and scooped up the rebound, skated around behind the net and tried to stuff it past Vaattovaara, but she kicked it away to thwart the threat.

A little over eight minutes later, the Wildcats (7-16-1, 4-9-0 Hockey East) got a lead of their own. Nicoline Jensen took off on a breakaway through the slot and slipped the puck under Hannah Ehresmann's (Minnetonka, Minn.) right pad to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats tapped in an empty netter with 12 seconds remaining in regulation for the final 2-0 score.

Boasting the sixth-best power play in the nation, the Nittany Lions went on the player advantage six times but were unable to capitalize.

Caitlin Reilly (Chanhassen, Minn.) led the Nittany Lions with a season-high five shots. Laura Bowman (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Sarah Nielsen (Edina, Minn.) each added four shots.

In goal for Penn State, Ehresmann (4-5-3) turned away 32 shots.

New Hampshire and Penn State rematch in Durham, N.H. tomorrow, Sat., Jan. 23 at 2 p.m.
