Stakhovsky Enters ITA Singles Poll

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 22 Penn State men's tennis team was represented in the ITA Singles Poll, released Tuesday. Junior Leonard Stakhovsky (Kiev, Ukraine) entered the poll for the first time this season, ranking 81st in the nation. Stakhovsky, who plays at the No. 1 singles spot for Penn State, will help lead the Nittany Lions, this weekend at the ITA Men's Team Indoor National Championships in Chicago, Ill., hosted at the Midtown Athletic Club by the University of Illinois.

Stakhovsky has two wins in 2014-15 against ranked opponents. During the fall season, the junior knocked off Old Dominion's Carlos Lopez Villa, ranked 42nd, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The Kiev, Ukraine native was a big part of Penn State's 4-1 win against No. 20 South Florida to help the Nittany Lions advance out of ITA Kickoff Weekend to National Indoors. Stakhovsky earned a three-set victory, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, against the Bulls' Roberto Cid, ranked 19th.

Stakhovsky was ranked in nine straight ITA Singles Polls to end the season in 2013-14. Stakhovsky reached as high as 33rd in the rankings and won three Big Ten Player of the Week Awards.

The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Jeff Zinn and Assistant Coach Paul Tobin, are one of the final 16 teams at National Indoors. The tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 13 and ends on Monday, Feb. 16 with the national championships match.
