FINAL STATISTICS

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Penn State Lady Lions (6-21, 3-13) struggled to find their shooting groove on the way to a 65-34 loss at #5/5 Maryland (25-2, 16-0) Monday night.

Junior center Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif.) posted a near double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. She also had four blocks on the night. Freshman guard Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) added eight points, five assists and two steals. Sophomore Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.) chipped in four points and five rebounds off of the bench.

The Terrapins sprinted out to a 10-0 lead thanks for a 4-for-5 effort to start the game. The Penn State deficit remained around 10 points for the next seven minutes until a 12-4 run by Maryland pushed the lead to 30-10 with 2:56 remaining. Spann would score four of the final nine points of the half as the Terps took a 35-14 lead into the break.

Spann continued her scoring efforts with four consecutive points to start the second half and cut the deficit to 35-18 with 17:43 left. However, the Terps clicked off a 7-2 run over the next two minutes to take a 22-point lead (42-20). Agee scored the lone bucket for the Lady Lions during the run on a pass from Spann.

After a layup by Agee on the feed from Keke Sevillian (Goodrich, Mich.), the Terps scored four straight to take a 46-22 lead with just over 13 minutes to play. Tori Waldner (Milton, Ga.) responded with four consecutive points to make it a 46-26 lead for Maryland. However, the Terps would score the game's next 11 points to extend the lead to 57-26. Penn State scored four points to slice into the lead to make it a 27 points margin (57-30), but that is as close as the Lions would get.
