UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the second time this season the No. 16 Penn State women's gymnastics team won all four events and the all-around on the way to a home meet victory. The Nittany Lions (5-2, 2-2) held the No. 24 Michigan State Spartans (5-3, 2-2) at bay in a 197.025-193.425 victory on Saturday at Rec Hall.

As a team, Penn State posted three season-high team scores; uneven bars (49.250), balance beam (49.200) and floor exercise (49.400), on its way to tying the fifth highest score in school history. It is just the sixth time in school history the Nittany Lions topped the 197.000 mark, with four of those coming under the watch of head coach Jeff Thompson.

Freshman Briannah Tsang (Vancouver, British Columbia) won the all-around for the third time this season and tied for the event title on the balance beam at 9.875. The rookie posted scores of 9.850 or better on all four events to post her second highest all-around score of the season at 39.475. She finished among the top four on all four apparatus and tied her career-best on the uneven bars (9.850) and floor exercise (9.875) to finish tied for third and tied for fourth, respectively.

Competing in the first all-around of her career, sophomore Emma Sibson (Allen, Texas) scored season-best marks on three of the four events and finished second in the competition with a mark of 39.400. She used a season-best 9.900 to win the vault title and logged a season-high 9.800 on the balance beam. She also scored a career-best of 9.825 on the uneven bars. Sibson was named the Ann Carr Award winner for her efforts

Senior Krystal Welsh (Bowie, Md.) won the event title on the uneven bars for the second time this season and tied for the event crown on the floor exercise vs. the Spartans. She logged a career-high-tying 9.900 to claim the uneven bars and scored a season-best 9.900 on the floor exercise. The senior now has 12 career event or all-around titles, with five coming on uneven bars and four on the floor exercise.

Other event winners for Penn State included sophomore Nicole Medvitz (Paramus, N.J.) and freshman Oni Timothy (Rochester, N.Y.). Medvitz led off the balance beam rotation by tying her career-best score of 9.875, which held up to tie for the event win with Tsang. Timothy tied for her first career event title by logging a career-high 9.900 on the floor exercise. She tied for the event win with Welsh and Michigan State's Elena Lagoski.

The Nittany Lions opened the meet with a strong showing on the vault for the second straight week and posted a team score of 49.175. Sibson collected her best score of the year at 9.900 to win the event. Sidney Sanabria-Robles (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Tsang each finished tied for second with a score of 9.875. The Spartans' competed only five gymnasts on the uneven bars, meaning they would count each score, and logged a score of 47.975.

The second rotation featured the first season-high score of the night for Penn State, a 49.250 on the uneven bars. Welsh, the final performer on the event, swung her way to a career-best-tying 9.900 to claim the event title. It was her second uneven bars crown of the season, also winning the event with a 9.900 vs. Maryland on Jan. 24. Lauren Li (Plano, Texas) and Tsang tied for third on the apparatus, with both gymnasts logging a career-best 9.850. Michigan State posted their highest team score of the afternoon with a 48.800 on the vault, including a 9.875 from Lagoski.

Another season-best team score came in the third rotation, when the Nittany Lions scored 49.200 on the balance beam. All six competing gymnasts scored a 9.800 or better for the Blue and White. Medvitz led off the event with a career-best-tying score of 9.875 to tie for event title with Tsang, who also posted a 9.875. Sophomore Christina Postiglione (Selden, N.Y.) officially competed for the first time in her career and posted a 9.825 to finish tied for third with Sanabria-Robles. Michigan State scored 48.700 on the floor exercise for their second best event score of the competition and Lagoski finished tied atop the event charts with a 9.900.

The final rotation was another season best effort for the Blue and White, as they tumbled their way to a 49.400 on the floor exercise. Timothy and Welsh each put together 9.900 routines to tie for the even title and all six of the competitors posted a score of 9.800 or better.
