GREENSBORO, N.C. - Eleven member of the Penn State women's swimming team are set to compete in the 2015 NCAA Women's Swimming Championships, hosted by NC State in the Greensboro Aquatic Center, Thursday through Saturday.
Seven Nittany Lions are competing individually in different events, while the additional four will help the team compete in all five relay events: the 200, 400 and 800 freestyles, and the 200 and 400 medleys.
Seniors Carolyn Fittin and Megan Siverling will be making their final swims in Blue and White. Fittin will compete in the 50 freestyle after getting invited with a season-best time of 22.27 seconds that ranks 26th nationally. Siverling will compete in the 500 (29th, 4:41.86) and 1,650 (19th, 16:07.55) frees, and she will have company from sophomore Casey Francis in the 1650 (32nd, 16:15.39) and sophomore Katelyn Sowinski in the 500 (24th, 4:40.72). Sowinski will also compete in the 200 butterfly (30th, 1:56.52) with junior Katie Rowe (25th, 1:56.11).
Also representing the junior class are Alyson Ackman and Melissa Rodriguez. Ackman, who was the Lions' top point scorer at the Big Ten Championships, will compete in the 100 (23rd, 48.55) and 200 (16th, 1:44.99) freestyles. Rodriguez will compete in the 200 breaststroke with a top time of 2:09.87 (21st).
Of the group Francis is the only first-time NCAA participant. Caitlyn Karr and Katelyn Miller round out the team's entire senior class, and will participate in the relay events.
The Nittany Lions finished 18th as a team last season.
