Soccer's Lee to Play in International Friendly

March 19, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's soccer player Nate Lee (Derwood, Md.) will represent the U.S. territory of Guam later this month when he suits up to play in international friendlies in Japan and Singapore.

Lee, a redshirt sophomore defender will play for the Guam National Football Team in its match versus the Hong Kong Representative Team, Mar. 28 at Hong Kong Stadium. The match will be an officially sanctioned FIFA contest and puts Lee alongside his twin brothers out on the pitch.

Both Alex Lee, who played at Maryland and Justin Lee who once played at PSU will join Nate in Japan for the friendly later this month, marking the first time the trio has suited up for their native homeland at the same time.

"What a special time in the lives of the Lee family," said men's soccer coach Bob Warming. "Justin was a tenacious competitor when he played at Penn State and Nate is going to play an important role in our team this fall. I have never heard of three brothers all on a National team at the same time, so it really is an amazing achievement," he added.

The three brothers will also travel with the national team to another exhibition against Singapore during the overseas trip. That match is scheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 31.

Lee appeared in a half dozen matches for the Nittany Lions in 2014, playing in a season high 22 minutes against St. Francis (Pa.), Sept. 16. He suited up in eight contests, while starting four as a redshirt freshman in 2013.

The Guam National team is controlled by the Guam Football Association and is affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and it's East Asian Football Federation region.

Meanwhile stateside, Penn State continues its spring exhibition schedule this weekend against Bucknell as the Lions and Bison are scheduled to play at 5 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 21 inside Holuba Hall.
