March 20, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's soccer assistant coach Michael Behonick has been selected to help coach the U.S. Paralympic National Team during its upcoming trip to Portugal.

Behonick, who recently completed his first season on the sidelines for the Nittany Lions and head coach Bob Warming will assist U.S. head coach Stuart Sharp when the team travels overseas to take part in a special five team tournament Mar. 20 -28 in the city of Povoa de Varzim.

This won't be his first time with a national club though as Behonick has been a member of the Puerto Rican national team since 2008. He also played professionally in the MLS for the New York Red Bulls and in the USL for four different teams.

Behonick's Paralympic squad will take on the Ukraine, Argentina and host Portugal in preparation for June's 2015 Cerebral Palsy Football World Championships.

While at Penn State, the first-year assistant primarily worked with the Lion goalkeepers and helped organize the team's defense.
