PHILADELPHIA -- The No. 11 Penn State women's lacrosse team never trailed in a 10-3 victory at Drexel on Sunday afternoon. Junior midfielder Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) tallied a game-high three goals as Penn State out-shot Drexel, 34-13.

"We had a good team effort," head coach Missy Doherty said. "Our defense came up big today. We're looking forward to a really tough matchup against Stanford on Tuesday."

The Nittany Lions dominated play with a wide margin in the shot column, but were frustrated by Drexel goalkeeper Teresha Bradley who made 14 saves to keep the Dragons in contention. Penn State (6-3) opened a 3-0 lead early in the opening eight minutes before Drexel (2-7) got on the board.

Jess Loizeaux (Mullica Hills, N.J.), Kelly Lechner (Silver Spring, Md.) and Katie O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa.) registered the first three goals before Drexel's Milan White scored with 20:14 remaining in the first.

Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) and Cyr tallied back-to-back markers at 14:24 and 11:52, respectively for a 5-1 advantage. Drexel's Lacey Aghazarian answered at 9:38 to make it 5-2 before Cyr scored the final goal of the half for a 6-2 lead. Penn State owns a 19-4 shot advantage in the opening 30 minutes.

Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) needed only 29 seconds to score her first of the day with an unassisted tally for a 7-2 lead. White answered Lazo's goal for the Dragons' final marker of the game at 7-3 with 25:39 to go.

Cyr's goal at 16:40 regained the five-goal lead at 8-3 before Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.) and Coffey tallied at 6:05 and 3:39, respectively to cap the scoring. O'Donnell notched an assist on McCormick's goal, the lone helper of the day by either team.

Freshman McKenna Coyle (Kennett Square, Pa.) came on in the second half and made a career-high four saves in 30 minutes of action, while allowing just one goal. Starter Emi Smith (Denver, Colo.) picked up the victory in net to improve to 6-3.

Penn State has a quick turnaround when it plays No. 9 Stanford (4-0) in Happy Valley on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Cardinal will play their first game since March 8, a 22-11 win over Vanderbilt.
