100 Back Results/200 Medley Relay Results

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Penn State junior Shane Ryan (Havertown, Pa.) became a first-team All-American in the 100 backstroke with his 45.24 time and third place finish at the NCAA Championships, Friday night. Ryan placed fifth in preliminaries with a time of 45.44, his finals performance was a season fastest time in the event.

Nate Savoy (Reading, Pa.) became an honorable mention All-American with his 13th place finish and 46.32 performance. The senior swimmer placed 12th during the morning session with his 45.85 time.

Both Ryan and Savoy have achieved this coveted status before as Ryan, a junior earned first-team honors a year ago with a silver in the event. Savoy was an first-team member during his freshman season (2011-12) and became an honorable mention in both 2013 and 2014.

Ryan's bronze performance scored head coach Tim Murphy a total of 16 points, while Savoy racked four points with his 13th place finish.

The decorated duo also starred in the 200 medley relay earlier in the day, who along with Andrew Schuehler (Camden, N.J.) and Kyle Madley (Madison, N.J.) finished in 1:26.63 during preliminaries. The quartet's performance was good enough for 20th place.

In the overall team standings Penn State has 20 total points and is tied for 19th place with B1G foe Purdue.

The NCAA Championships wrap up tomorrow with preliminaries at 12 p.m. and finals to take place at 8 p.m. at Iowa's Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
