BALTIMORE, Md. - The ninth-ranked Penn State women's lacrosse team held No. 17 Loyola Maryland scoreless for the final 22 minutes of play en route to a 12-8 road victory on Saturday at the Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore.

Sophomore Steph Lazo (Stevensville, Md.) netted a game-high three goals for Penn State (4-1, 0-0 Big Ten). Her 14 goals on the season are the most on the team. Senior Maggie McCormick (Eldersburg, Md.), who leads the team in assists, added two more on Saturday for a season total of 13.

In addition to Lazo's hat trick, McCormick and junior Jenna Mosketti (Fallston, Md.) each scored twice. Seniors Tatum Coffey (Toms River, N.J.) and Kelly Lechner (Silver Spring, Md.), juniors Madison Cyr (Westminster, Md.) and Ally Heavens (Garnet Valley, Pa.), and sophomore Abby Smucker (Bel Air, Md.) added one goal apiece.

The Nittany Lions had a five-goal run in each half to surmount both of Loyola's leads. After conceding two early goals to the Greyhounds, Lechner sparked the Penn State offense by scoring a free-position goal less than three minutes into the game.

In the ensuing five minutes, goals from Heavens, McCormick, Mosketti, and Smucker gave Penn State a 5-2 advantage.

Loyola (1-4, 0-0 Patriot League) fought its way back into the contest, taking the lead, 8-7, with 22:13 remaining. Fifty seconds after what would eventually be the Greyhounds' final goal, Mosketti scored her second goal of the contest to tie the game at eight. Two consecutive goals scored by Steph Lazo and assisted by McCormick gave the Nittany Lions a 10-8 lead with 15:11 remaining, and Penn State never looked back.

Penn State scooped 16 ground balls, led by three from Smucker and two apiece from Coffey, Cyr, Taylor Bleistein (Bayville, N.Y.), and Natalie Schmitt.

Ally Heavens (4) and Jenna Mosketti (3) dominated draw controls for Penn State, securing seven of the team's 10.

The Nittany Lions caused five Loyola turnovers, including two caused turnovers by Bleistein.

Penn State returns to Happy Valley for a midweek matchup against No. 15 James Madison on Wednesday, March 11. It is slated to be the first game played outdoors at the Penn State Lacrosse Field this season. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
