Penn State to Host Rutgers in Primetime for Big Ten Opener

April 13, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - For the second-straight season, Penn State will square off with Rutgers under lights in a primetime matchup on the Big Ten Network on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights will meet at Beaver Stadium for the first time since 1994.

The game time for the contest between Big Ten East Division foes will be announced at a later date. In addition to airing on the BTN, the game is also available on the Penn State Sports Network and GoPSUsports.com. The contest will mark the beginning of the Big Ten's 120th football season.

Penn State will be playing a primetime game on BTN for the fifth consecutive season with a 4-1 record in those contests. The Nittany Lions won at Northwestern (2011), Iowa (2012) and Rutgers (2014) and lost at home to UCF by a field goal in 2013 on BTN.

The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights have met 25 times with the first meeting coming in 1918. Penn State holds a 23-2 lead in the series with a 13-2 mark in homes games.

The squads met for the first time as Big Ten foes last season with Penn State rallying from a 10-point deficit to claim at 13-10 victory at Rutgers. Bill Belton scored on a 5-yard run with 1:13 left to give the Lions the lead and Ryan Keiser sealed the win with the defense's fifth interception of the game.

Penn State will be playing at least one regular season night game for the 16th consecutive season. Additional Nittany Lion kick times will be announced later this spring.

BTN is available to more than 90 million homes through agreements with more than 300 cable, satellite and telco providers in all 50 states and approximately 20 countries. Armstrong Cable, Blue Ridge Cable and Metrocast, though, do not carry BTN in Pennsylvania and the Medina and Youngstown, Ohio areas. More than 35,000 Penn State alumni live in the communities served by the three cable providers in Pennsylvania and the Medina and Youngstown areas, in addition to thousands more Penn State and Big Ten fans and current Penn State students.

Penn State concludes its spring practices with the Blue-White game on Saturday, April 18 at 4 p.m. Admission and game day parking are free.

Season tickets for the 2015 campaign are on sale, with more than 2,200 new season tickets having been sold.
