UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The regular season concluded Sunday as the No. 52 Penn State women's tennis team fell to No. 14 Michigan 4-0. The Nittany Lions finished with an 8-3 Big Ten record, winning seven of the last eight conference matches. Overall, the team ended the season winning eight of their last nine matches.

"Credit to Michigan for their strong play today," said head coach Chris Cagle. "They are a very talented and well coached team."

Sara Remynse clinched the match for the Wolverines as she defeated Jacqueline Zuhse (Boca Raton, Fla.) 6-3, 6-1. Mira Ruder-Hook beat Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) 6-1, 6-0. Kim Surin (Montreal, Canada) fell to No. 108 Sarah Lee 6-3, 6-1.

Michigan took a 1-0 early as the Wolverines won on courts one and three. The 18th ranked doubles team of Emina Bektas and Alex Najarian clinched the doubles point with their 8-3 victory over Katia Blik and Victoria Kisialeva. Sara Remynse and Mira Ruder-Hook defeated Katherine Whiteaway and Zuhse 8-0.

"Today was also a day to honor Lisa [Petruzillo] and Melissa [Minniti] for all of their contributions to the team. It was a pleasure to have them as members of the team," said Cagle.

Katia Blik (Moscow, Russia), Victoria Kisialeva (Toronto, Canada) and Dasha Sapogova (Minsk, Belarus) had their matches unfinished. Kisialeva was victorious in her first set over No. 23 Emina Bektas 6-4 before her match was stopped down 2-1 in the second set. Blik dropped the first set to No. 31 Ronit Yurovsky 6-4 and was tied 1-1 in the second. Sapogova lost the first set 6-4 but was leading 5-3 in the second against Alex Najarian.

Now it's time to move on and use the momentum we have gained the last month and get ready to start the Big Ten Championships Friday," said Cagle.
