CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -  Freshman Cole Miller moved up 11 spots after recording a team-best par performance on the second day of the NCAA Regional Championships at the Finley Golf Course at North Carolina Friday. As a team, the Penn State golfers sit in the 11th spot, matching its seed in the tournament, after posting a second-round score of 298.

"We started slow again today, on a day in golf called `moving day,' Greg Nye, Penn State head coach, said. "We just did not give ourselves enough opportunities on our back nine to match or surpass yesterday's finish."

Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) went three-under par on his final six holes of the day, recording three birdies, to finish even at 72. He entered the day in the No. 59 spot, but moved up to 48, a position he now shares with teammate senior Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.). Talbert finished two-over par for the second-consecutive day after bogeying six holes, but coming back with above-par showings on four others.

Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario) remains the highest-ranked Penn State golfer, despite a six-over par outing Friday. He is currently in the No. 42 position.

Junior JD Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.) and senior Xander Smith-McDonald (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) are currently in 60th and 66th places, respectively. Each was four-over par on the day.

The NCAA Regional Championships conclude Saturday with one final round of 18 holes. Penn State will begin play at 8:25 a.m. off hole 10 with McDonald-Smith. He will be followed by groups featuring Dornes (8:36), Talbert (8:47), Miller (8:58) and Elliott (9:09).
