ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Penn State softball team fell 9-1 at No.3 Michigan in six innings on Saturday at Alumni Field at the Wilpon Complex. The Nittany Lions collected seven hits. The blue and white dropped to 28-26 overall and 9-13 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines improved to 47-6, including 20-2 in conference play.

Sophomore Marlaina Laubach (Northampton, Pa.) held the Wolverines scoreless through the first 2.1 innings. She finished the game pitching three innings, including into the fourth inning, allowing six runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking three.

Penn State threatened to score first, loading the bases in the top of the second. With one out, Alyssa VanDerveer (Hillsborough, N.J.) sent the first pitch up the middle. After a fielder's choice, Pond singled up the middle. Shannon Good (Horseheads, N.Y.) followed with her own single up the middle to load the bases. However, a groundout to second ended the inning.

The Wolverines got on the board in the bottom of the third on a two-run home run to left center by Sierra Lawrence.

The Nittany Lions got a run back in the top of the fourth. With one out, Kirstina Brackpool (Valencia, Calif.) reached on a fielding error. Pond collected her second hit of the day, with a single through the left side. A groundout to shortstop by Good moved pinch-runner Mary Ward (Greencastle, Pa.) to third and Pond to second. Reina Furuya (Waipahu, Hawaii) lined a ball to left to score Ward to cut the deficit in half.

Pond also singled up the middle in the sixth for her third knock of the day.

Michigan added four runs in the bottom of the fourth, with half of those scoring on Kelly Christner's single to left.

The Wolverines scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a two-run home run by Lindsay Montemarano.

Michigan starter Haylie Wagner pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits, while striking out two and walking none.
