Burnside Invited to USILA North-South All-Star Game

May 20, 2015

PERRY, N.Y.; May 20, 2015 - JP Burnside (Garden City, N.Y.) has been invited to play in the 74th United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/LaxWorld North-South Division I/II All-Star Game on Friday, May 22 at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be selected for the North-South All-Star Game," Burnside said. "When I received the call, my family and I were very excited for the opportunity. I thank the coaches at Penn State for believing in me and submitting my name to be potentially chosen."

Burnside started every game on defense for the Nittany Lions in the inaugural year of Big Ten Lacrosse, an integral cog in a unit that posted a 10.05 goals against average. He scooped up 26 ground balls and caused six turnovers, helping the Blue and White to a berth in the Big Ten Tournament with two-straight conference wins to end the regular season. The Academic All-Big Ten honoree graduated in May with a degree in supply chain and information systems.

Burnside is one of three Big Ten student-athletes participating in the game, joining Ohio State's David Planning and Rick Lewis on the South Team.

The game, which started in 1940, features the top players who exhausted eligibility in the most recent season. There are separate contests for Division I/II student-athletes and those competing at Division III men's lacrosse institutions.

Penn State has had at one student-athlete participate in the game 24 of the last 30 years. This year's Division I/II North Team is coached by Vermont's coaching staff, Ryan Curtis, Mike Kruger and Pat March, and the South Team will be led by Seton Hill's coaching staff, Brian Novotny, Cameron Stone, Chris Ilse and Ben Lewis, and Travis Harrington, an assistant at Robert Morris.

The Division I/II game begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22. Live stats and a web cast of the games are available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/cabrini/mlax/ and http://www.cabriniathletics.com/showcase.
