UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --
For each of the last 18 years, the Coaches vs. Cancer -- Penn State Golf Tournament has been one of the highlights of the Penn State men's basketball program's offseason. This year is expected to be no different as head coach Patrick Chambers prepares to host the 19th annual event Thursday and Friday in University Park.

Festivities begin Thursday with the Sponsor/Captain Reception at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and continue all day Friday with two flights of golf on Penn State's picturesque Blue and White Courses and an evening reception. More than 300 golfers and 60 groups are participating in the tournament, which stands as the flagship event for a year-round CVC-Penn State program. CVC-Penn State topped the $2 million mark in fundraising since its inception in 2013 and is now quickly closing in on $2.5 million.

A host of special guests are expected throughout the course of the event, including NBA stars, former PSU players, current head coaches and department leaders. NBA All-Star Kyle Lowry, who played for Chambers and with assistant coach Dwayne Anderson at Villanova, will captain a foursome Friday. Five-time NBA Champion Ron Harper also will tee it up with a group as he participates in the CvC tourney for the second-consecutive year.

Big Ten Network analyst Shon Morris also is making his second trip in a row to Happy Valley for the golf tournament and will be a featured speaker at the Friday night reception.

Former Nittany Lion head coaches Jerry Dunn and Bruce Parkhill, along with players Brian Allen (1986-89), Nick Colella (2012-13), Craig Collins (1982-85), Joe Crispin (1998-2001), Jon Crispin (2000-01), Tim Frazier (2010-14), Ben Luber (2004-07), Danny Morrissey (2005-09), Glenn Sekunda (1995-96), Tyler Smith (1999-2002), Ross Travis (2012-15) and Alan Wisniewski (2012-15) all will be on hand Friday.

James Franklin is slated to participate in events Friday, while Penn State's athletic director Sandy Barbour and nine other Nittany Lion head coaches -- Rob Cooper (baseball), Missy Doherty (women's lacrosse), Guy Gadowsky (men's hockey), Char Morett (field hockey), Greg Nye (men's golf), Mark Pavlik (men's volleyball), Jeff Thompson (women's gymnastics), Erica Walsh (women's soccer) and Bob Warming (men's soccer) -- will golf alongside groups.

About the CVC-Penn State Golf Tournament
The Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament, hosted by Chambers, has become one of the premier golf events in Pennsylvania annually hosting more than 300 golfers, sponsors and regional sports luminaries in flights taking place on both Penn State golf courses. The five-man, 18-hole scramble tournament is just part of the activities that include a gala Sponsors/Captain Reception, featuring high-end hors d'oeuvres, open beverage service and live music, and a post-tournament awards dinner at the Mount Nittany Club at Beaver Stadium.

Other CVC-Penn State Programs
The annual golf tournament is just part of a year-round program which has several events coming up on the calendar including the State College Brew Expo (Aug. 15 at Tussey Mountain), 10th Annual CVC Reverse Car Drawing (Sept. 17 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park), Coaches vs. Cancer Day (TBA at Nittany Lion home game) and the 17th Annual CVC 5K Fun Run/Walk (Spring 2016, PSU campus). CVC-Penn State has raised over $200,000 in each of the last five years en route to topping the $2 million mark at the close of 2012-13 events. The group is quickly closing in on $2.5 million.
