UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Penn State baseball rising juniors Jake Pilewicz (Sewickley, Pa.) and Nick Riotto (Washington, Pa.) were both named to their respective summer league all-star teams.
Pilewicz was named to the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League North all-star team, which held its all-star game Wednesday, July 15. Pilewicz pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in the Long Island-based league's game, yielding just a hit and a walk, to help the North earn a 2-1 victory over the South team. Playing for the Riverhead Tomcats, Pilewicz ranks 11th in the league in ERA at 1.80 through games played Sunday. He owns a 2-3 record in 10 appearances with five starts, also totaling 29 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched.
Riotto was named to the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League's Red all-star team. The league's all-star game will be played Tuesday evening in Mason, Ohio. Riotto, who is playing for the Galion (Ohio) Graders, leads the league with a .420 batting average and .500 on-base percentage in 19 games played through Sunday. He also has six doubles, a triple and 10 RBIs.
Nittany Lions are continuing to have successful summers elsewhere. Righty reliever Jack Anderson (Evanston, Ill.) leads the Cotuit Kettleers in the prestigious Cape League with 14 appearances, and has a 1.50 ERA, 3-1 record and 20 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. Dakota Forsyth (Bethel Park, Pa.) boasts a 2.01 ERA and 4-1 record in eight appearances (six starts) for the Baltimore Redbirds of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. Catcher Alex Malinsky (Apex, N.C.) is batting .245 on Riotto's Galion team. Jim Haley (Upper Darby, Pa.) has three multi-hit games in the past eight games for the North Adams Steeplecats of the New England League, and Christian Helsel (Altoona, Pa.) is batting .276 with a home run and 16 RBIs for the Battle Creek (Michigan) Bombers of the Northwoods League.
