UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Penn State baseball volunteer assistant coach Blake Beemer has accepted a full-time assistant coaching position with Eastern Illinois, it was announced Tuesday.
Beemer first joined the Nittany Lion coaching staff prior to the 2014 season shortly after Rob Cooper was named head coach. Beemer primarily worked with the team's outfielders and coached first base, while also handling a myriad of logistical duties for the team off the field.
At Eastern Illinois, Beemer will serve as first-year head coach Jason Anderson's top assistant, as well as the recruiting coordinator.
"Blake Beemer is someone we are going to miss deeply at Penn State," said head coach Rob Cooper. "He has done so much to make our program, players and university better. Eastern Illinois is getting one of the best young assistant coaches in the game. We are happy for him to advance his career and wish him nothing but success!"
Beemer worked with a pair of players who successfully transitioned to roles in centerfield this past season, while outfielders Aaron Novak and Greg Guers both enjoyed career years under his tutelage.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Beemer arrived in Happy Valley after a distinguished career as a collegiate baseball player at Ball State.
