CGA Announces 2015 Academic Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The College Gymnastics Association (CGA) released its list of 2015 All-America Scholar-Athletes and academic teams. Seven Nittany Lions received individual honors, while Penn State as a team received honorable mention academic honors.

Leading the way for the Nittany Lions was senior Nestor Rodriguez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico). Rodriguez received first team honors with having a GPA between 3.50 and 3.599. Along with Rodriguez, six other Nittany Lions were honored by the CGA with second team honors.Joseph Boyle (Colts Neck, N.J.), Benjamin Cooperman (Southborough, Mass.) and Craig Hernandez (Libertyville, Ill.) tallied GPAs between 3.40-3.499.

Also receiving second team honors were Franz Card (Nashua, N.H.), Tristan Duverglas (West Orange, N.J.) and Christian McSwain (Jamestown, N.C.). Card and Duverglas record GPAs between 3.30-3.399, while McSwain tallied a GPA between 3.20-3.299.

Since the inception of the award in 1991, the Nittany Lions have received 60 first team All-America Scholar-Athlete honors and 40 second team All-America Scholar-Athlete honors. Penn State's 60 first team honorees rank 13th all-time, while the 40 second team honorees are fifth-most all-time.
