Nittany Lion Women's Tennis Team Finishes up at Hokie Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA- The Penn State women's tennis team, led by head coach Chris Cagle, wrapped up action at the Hokie Invitational today. The team competed well in both singles and doubles to complete the final day of play.

Devan McCluskey (Phoenix, Ariz.) took third in the Brotherhood flight, going 2-1 for the weekend. McCluskey downed Abby Amos of James Madison (6-1, 6-4) in the third place match. Kelly Mengel (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed fourth in the Service Flight, going 1-2 while Katherine Whiteaway (Sawbridgeworth, England) advanced to the finals of the Sacrifice Flight, falling to Carolina Prats-Milan of Armstrong State (6-1, 6-0).

Samantha Tutelman (New York, N.Y.) competed in the finals of the Honor Flight against Armstrong State's Alejandra Cisnero. Tutelman took the match in three sets (6-4,4-6, 10-5) to claim the Honor Flight title. Hannah Kratky (Greenwich, Conn.) took fourth in the Duty Flight with a 1-2 mark. Taylor Shukow (Boca Raton, Fla.) won the consolation bracket to take fifth place and went 3-1 over the weekend.

In doubles action, the team of Tutelman/Shukow competed in the finals of the Maroon flight and finished second in the bracket. The duo went 3-1 at the tournament. The team of Kratky/ Rivers went 1-2 in the White doubles flight and placed fourth.

Coach Cagle commented on today's performance, "After doubles this morning we had a defined focus for singles. I was very happy with our overall play in the afternoon singles. It was a strong effort by many including Sam winning her flight. We now have a training block over the next few weeks to get ready for Regionals."
