UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
Penn State field hockey fell to Ohio State in double overtime, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex.

Ohio State (6-3, 2-0 Big Ten) captured the game with a shot from Morgan Kile on a fast break in the game's 95th minute to clinch sudden victory.

Penn State (4-5, 1-2 Big Ten) would hold the advantage over the Buckeyes in shots, attempting a season high 25, and penalty corners, attempting 14.

The Buckeyes managed just 12 shots, and only one penalty corner.

"We had chances in front of the goal where we weren't tenacious enough, you know, we have to learn to finish," said head coach Charlene Morett-Curtiss. "Their goalie played well but, 14 corners, (our) execution needs to be better"

Brooke Birosik (Ickesburg, Pa.) netted the Nittany Lions lone goal of the day on a penalty stroke 23:04 into the first half.

Penn State would take a 1-0 lead into the half, limiting the Buckeyes to only three shots through the first 35 minutes of play.

Ohio State rallied to knot the game at one goal apiece on a pass and shoot from Casey Cole, who dribbled into the right side of the circle before a quick pass, to Brooke Hiltz who scored with a shot from the left side close to the cage.

The end of regulation would see both teams tied at one goal apiece.

The first overtime period would see Penn State hold the advantage in shots (2), and penalty corners (3), but ended the period without netting a goal, despite Ohio State playing down a player for five minutes due to a yellow card.

Aurelia Meijer`s shot in the 88th minute would prove to be Penn State's best opportunity to close out the Buckeyes, as her shot would come within inches of rolling in to the cage on the right side before carrying wide of the post.

"I think the backs really did a good job today," said Morett-Curtiss. "We need a little more ball speed and get the ball into better scoring position. We need that change of speed to create more opportunities"

Penn State will host Quinnipiac Friday, October 2 for this year's Pink Zone game. Pink "Penn State Field Hockey" caps will be given away while supplies last, and a kids bounce house, for kids age 12 and under, will be on campus again during pre-game.
