COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Penn State women's soccer team defeated Ohio State, 2-1, Saturday night at the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Megan Schafer (Langhorne, Pa.) tallied her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the Penn State victory.

Penn State improves to 12-3-2 (7-2-1) on the season, while Ohio State falls to 9-5-3 (4-4-2).

The Nittany Lions struck first early in the contest as Frannie Crouse (Greensburg, Pa.) played a through ball to Schafer and Schafer beat Ohio State's Jillian McVicker from 12 yards out for the go-ahead goal in the eighth minute.

The game remained at 1-0 until freshman Marissa Sheva (Sellersville, Pa.) netted her third career goal as a Nittany Lion in the 39th minute. After a giveaway near midfield, Sheva found the back of the net from 15 yards out.

The Penn State offense netted two goals on eight shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of play. During the opening frame, the Penn State defense held the OSU offense to two shot attempts.

Lindsay Agnew recorded her fourth goal of the season for OSU in the 81st minute to cut the Nittany Lion lead in half. Down the final minutes of regulation, Ohio State was unable to tally the game-tying goal securing the win for the Blue and White.

In the match, Penn State outshot Ohio State, 15-7, and held a 9-2 shot on goal advantage. Senior goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom (Germantown, Md.) made one save in the match for Penn State.

Crouse led the Nittany Lion attack with four shot attempts, while freshman Charlotte Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) also added three shot attempts of her own.

The Nittany Lions host the Michigan Wolverines Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Jeffery Field in the regular season finale at 7 p.m.
