Big Ten Release
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State field hockey freshman midfielder Aurelia Meijer (Hattem, Netherlands) was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, and Freshman Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. This marks the first time in her career that Meijer has earned Big Ten weekly honors.
Meijer scored all three goals, including the game-winner with no time remaining, to lift Penn State over Iowa, 3-2, Friday at the Field Hockey Complex. With the score tied 2-2, Meijer, a freshman from the Netherlands, found the back of the cage on a corner attempt with no time on the clock to give Penn State the win in dramatic fashion during the final home game of the season live on BTN. Meijer attempted eight shots on the day - six on goal - netting all three Nittany Lion goals to complete her first career hat trick. She entered the contest with just three goals on the season, but is now tied for the most on the team this season (6), and she leads the team in scoring overall with 16 points (6 goals, team-best 4 assists).
Penn State will travel to Evanston, Ill. to face Northwestern in a Big Ten regular season finale Friday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.
