2016 PENN STATE MEN'S LACROSSE SCHEDULE

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State head coach Jeff Tambroni has announced the 2016 Penn State men's lacrosse schedule this afternoon. This year's slate features matchups against five teams that made the 2015 NCAA Tournament, as well as a neutral site meeting against defending national champion Denver.

The Nittany Lions will host eight home games this year, while also traveling for six away games. Following the inaugural season of Big Ten men's lacrosse, Penn State is set to host three conference opponents at home this year. PSU finished 2-3 in conference play a year ago, having reached the semifinal round of the first ever Big Ten Tournament.

"We're thrilled from top to bottom," Tambroni said. "If you look at our schedule it's a replay off of last year's in terms of strength of schedule. We were a top 10 strength of schedule team last year and we've tried to challenge our group this year both in league and out of league. I think we've been pretty successful in assembling another schedule that will do that week in and week out."

The Nittany Lions will prepare for the regular season with a trip to Army for a scrimmage set for Saturday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m.

Penn State officially kicks off the 2016 campaign with a mid-afternoon home matchup against Robert Morris Saturday, Feb. 6 at noon. The Nittany Lions remain home the following week, welcoming Hobart to Happy Valley, Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m.

The Nittany Lions will take their first road trip of the 2016 season at Cornell. Penn State will square off against the Big Red Saturday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y. Penn State returns home to host Villanova Saturday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.

PSU is set to spend spring break on the road, beginning with a trip to Penn Saturday, March 5 at noon. Penn State captured a 14-11 victory against then-No.11/16 Penn in last year's early season meeting. The Nittany Lions will head south to meet Furman on the road in Greenville, South Carolina in a midweek matchup set for Tuesday, March 8 at noon.

Penn State returns home for back-to-back home contests, hosting Harvard Saturday, March 12 and UMass Saturday, March 19. Both games are slated to begin at noon.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Dallas, Texas to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule. Penn State will meet 2015 defending national champion Denver in a neutral site clash Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. ET at SMU's Gerald Ford Stadium.

Penn State travels back to University Park to open the Big Ten conference portion of the schedule with two straight matches at home. The Nittany Lions will host 2015 NCAA national runner-up Maryland Sunday, April 10 at 7 p.m. The following week, PSU welcomes Johns Hopkins Sunday, April 17 at 7 p.m.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Rutgers for a conference matchup Saturday, April 23, before returning home to close out the regular season with a matchup against Michigan set for Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. Penn State claimed league wins in both outings against the Scarlet Knights and the Wolverines a year ago.

Johns Hopkins will host the 2016 Big Ten Tournament, which begins Thursday, May 5 and wraps up Saturday, May 7.
