FINAL STATISTICS

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.: November 22, 2015 --The Penn State women's basketball team improved to 3-0 at the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Nov. 22 with a 73-47 victory over Central Connecticut State.

The Lady Lions (3-1) improve to 11-1 all-time against teams in the Northeast Conference with their win over CCSU and are 5-0 against the conference in the past five seasons.

For the third game this season, Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.) led Penn State with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The junior's points and rebounds led all players in the game, while the double-double marked her third of the season.

Whitted is the first Lady Lion to post 10-plus rebounds in four-straight games since Nikki Greene, who pulled down 10-or-more rebounds in six-straight games from Jan. 6 to Jan. 27, 2013. Moreover, Whitted has led the Blue and White on the boards in all four games of the 2015-16 season.

Three other players notched double-digit scoring for the Lady Lions, including Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.), who netted 14 points, while Candice Agee (Victorville, Calif.) and Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.) added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Central Connecticut State (1-3) had two players reach double figures, in Aleah Epps and Camden Musgrave, who scored 12 and 10 points apiece for the Blue Devils. On the boards, TeJahne Malone pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

The Blue Devils got out to a quick start on offense, taking an early 7-4 lead over Penn State, but the Lady Lion defense buckled down to force three-straight CSSU turnovers, including two shot clock violations heading into the media timeout.

After a 2:46 scoring drought, Mitchell drove the lane to lay up an easy basket for the Blue and White and cut the Blue Devil lead to one. The Lady Lions used four-straight free throws to knot the score at 10-10 before Central Connecticut State answered back with a jumper on the left side of the arc to take a 12-10 lead into the second quarter.

PSU took its first lead of the afternoon when Agee completed the and-one play with 8:42 left in the first half, but the Blue Devils used back-to-back baskets to recapture the advantage, 18-15, forcing Penn State to call a timeout.

The Lady Lions used a 7-0 run later in the second quarter to take a seven-point lead with 3:39 left to play in the first half. The two teams exchanged baskets to close out the half, allowing Penn State to take a 32-25 advantage into the locker room.

The Blue and White shot 52.4 percent from the floor in the opening quarters, while Agee knocked down a team-high nine points and tallied two blocks. The Lady Lions out-rebounded CCSU, 14-12, with Whitted pulling down six boards for PSU.

Penn State came out of the break on fire offensively, going on an 8-2 run in the opening minutes of the third quarter to take a 13-point lead, 40-27, and forcing Central Connecticut State to call a timeout to try and slow the pace of the game.

The Lady Lions continued to build on their lead in the third quarter, carrying a 53-31 lead into the final 10 minutes. Penn State netted 21 points in the third quarter, while keeping the Blue Devils to just six points.

Penn State did not let up in the fourth quarter, adding 20 points, including a three pointer by Leah Knizner (Greensburg, Pa.) for the first points of her career. Eventually, the Lady Lions would walk away with a 73-47 win.

Penn State will take a trip to Northridge, Calif. for the Radisson Chatsworth Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 27-28. The Lady Lions will take on host Cal-State Northridge Friday, Nov. 27 to kick off the tournament. Tip off is slated for 10:30 p.m. ET
