ROSEMONT, Ill. - Penn State men's soccer junior Connor Maloney (Harrisburg, Pa.) and freshman Austin Maloney (Harrisburg, Pa.) collected Big Ten individual honors, as announced by the conference offices Friday, Nov. 6. C. Maloney was named First Team All-Big Ten for the second time in his career, while A. Maloney notched All-Freshman Team honors.
C. Maloney has started 15 matches for Penn State in 2015, notching a team-best 15 points including a team-high seven goals The Harrisburg, Pa. native scored two goals against both Penn and conference foe Maryland in the 2015 campaign while adding one helper to his stat line. The junior midfielder ties for third in the conference with seven goals, while tying for fourth in points and ranking 10th in shots. Maloney was also named a captain for 2015 and a preseason player to watch in the Big Ten.
In his first season donning the Blue and White, A. Maloney started 12 matches, before missing four games due to injury. The freshman midfielder played 904 minutes and added an assist in his first collegiate appearance against San Francisco. Maloney had two assists on the season for the Nittany Lions, while being a key contributor in the midfield.
Additionally, senior Brian James (Sunrise, Fla.) earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for Penn State. The Sunrise, Fla. native is one-of-three student-athletes to start all 16 matches for the Nittany Lions and ties a team-best three assists. James also ranks second on the team with 1339 minutes of action and has scored two goals, including one game-winner. The senior midfielder was named a captain in the 2015 season.
The Maloney's and the rest of the Penn State men's soccer team heads to Columbus, Ohio for a Big Ten Tournament First Round match against Michigan State Saturday, Nov. 7. Match time is set for 1 p.m. and will be featured on BTN Plus.
