PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 10 Princeton Tigers used a three-goal third period to defeat the Penn State women's hockey team, 4-0, Friday night at the Hobey Baker Rink.
In net, Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) made 38 saves for the Nittany Lions. Ehresmann's 38 saves Friday night is a single-game high this season and the third-most in her career. Last season, she tallied 45- and 50-save performances.
The Nittany Lions (4-11-4, 1-3-4 CHA) and Tigers (10-4-1, 5-4-1 ECAC) went into the first intermission with Princeton holding a 13-5 shot advantage, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes.
In the first period of play, the Tigers were called for two minor penalties, while the Nittany Lions were called for a penalty of their own. The Tigers began the second period of play with a man-advantage for the first 12 seconds, but were unable to capitalize.
Princeton tallied its first goal of the game on its 23rd shot attempt of the night at the 10:33 mark of the second period, as Molly Contini netted her fourth goal of the 2015-16 campaign.
Heading into the second intermission, Princeton held a 1-0 lead over Penn State. During the second stanza, Princeton outshot Penn State, 16-8, and held an overall shot advantage of 29-13.
In the final period of play, Princeton netted three goals to secure the 4-0 victory.
For the Tigers in the third period, Cassidy Tucker netted her fifth goal of the season at 1:39, Kelsey Koelzer tallied her seventh goal of the season at 8:50 and Fiona McKenna recorded her second goal of the season at 10:11.
Shannon Yoxheimer (Jackson, Mich.) led the Nittany Lion attack with seven shot attempts Friday night. Yoxheimer's seven shot attempts ties a season-high, a mark she has set four times this season.
Penn State closes out the 2015 calendar year tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Princeton at the Hobey Baker Rink.
