KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Senior midfielder Raquel Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-America First Team, as announced by the NSCAA Thursday. Last season, Rodriguez was named a second team NSCAA Scholar All-American.
Including Rodriguez, 10 Nittany Lions have received NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team honors on 12 occasions.
Rodriguez currently has a 3.80 grade point average as a recreation, park and tourism management major.
During her senior year, Rodriguez started all 27 matches, recorded six goals and six assists. In the national championship match against No. 20 Duke, she scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute of play.
For her performance in the College Cup, she was named the Most Outstanding Player on Offense and recorded All-Tournament Team honors. She was also named a NSCAA All-Great Lakes First Team honoree, a NSCAA first team All-American, a MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist, an All-Big Ten First Team honoree, Academic All-Big Ten, a TopDrawerSoccer Best XI First Team member and TopDrawerSoccer's Player of the Year in 2015.
