UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- TThe Penn State women's basketball team outscored Nebraska in three of the four quarter on Thursday evening inside the Bryce Jordan Center, but the Cornhuskers built an 18-point first quarter edge and held on for the 83-78 win over the Lady Lions.

Penn State (6-10, 1-4 B1G) saw five players reach double-digit scoring for the second time this season with Teniya Page's (Chicago, Ill.) 19 points leading the scoring drive for the Lady Lions. Also notching double-digits were Brianna Banks (Newnan, Ga.), Kaliyah Mitchell (Stone Mountain, Ga.), Lindsey Spann (Laurel, Md.) and Peyton Whitted (Suwanee, Ga.).

The five-player combination is the same quintuplet of players as the Dec. 5 contest against USF to reach the double-figures. Banks added 15 points, Mitchell had 14, Whitted notched 12 tallies and Spann added 10 apiece.

Defensively, Penn State forced Nebraska (11-5, 2-3 B1G) into 17 turnovers, which turned into 20 Lady Lion points, while the Blue and White committed just 10 turnovers in the contest. The battle of the boards ended in a tie with both teams grabbing 38 rebounds.

Natlie Romeo lead all scorers on the night, dropping 32 points, while Jessica Shepard had 29 points for the Cornhuskers. The duo combined for 61 points, which accounted for 73 percent of the Nebraska scoring. Shepard was the lone player to post a double-double with 10 rebounds, while Allie Havers had 10 points and eight boards for the Cornhuskers.

After getting out to the early lead in the contest, Penn State saw Nebraska go on a 7-0 run to take an 11-8 lead, forcing Head Coach Coquese Washington to call a timeout with 5:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Cornhuskers closed the quarter on a 25-3 run to take a 29-11 lead into the second quarter.

The Blue and White used a short Nebraska draught to come within 16 of the Cornhuskers when Banks sank a jumper with 5:15 to play in the half. Penn State worked their way to within nine of Nebraska with a layup from Whitted. On the opposite end of the court Banks came up with a steal which turned into a fast break basket for the Lady Lions to bring them within eight, 42-34, but Nebraska answered back with a trey from Romeo to take a 45-34 lead into halftime.

Penn State battled to within nine of the Cornhuskers when Mitchell drove the left side of the lane with 2:05 left in the third, but again Nebraska answered back when they capitalized on a Lady Lion foul to extend their lead back to double-digits, 60-49.

The Lady Lions used to an 18-8 rally capped off with a Banks jumper to pull within two of the Cornhuskers, 64-62, with just over six minutes to play in the game. Nebraska answered back with an 11-4 run to take a nine-point advantage, 77-68, with 2:28 remaining. Despite cutting the lead to three with less than a minute to play, the Lady Lions couldn't get the equalizer and Nebraska capitalized on free throws down the stretch to claim the 82-78 victory.

Penn State will close out its two-game home stretch Sunday, Jan. 17 against Michigan in the 10th Annual Pink Zone at Penn State Game. The Lady Lions and Wolverines will top off at 2 p.m. and the game will be aired on BTN2Go.com and via the Penn State Sports Network.
