UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's basketball (11-9, 2-5 B1G) is set to travel to Ohio State (12-8, 4-3 B1G) January 25, for a Monday night matchup at 7 p.m. on BTN.

STORYLINES

  • The Nittany Lions and Buckeyes are both coming off losses Thursday night with Penn State falling to Wisconsin and Ohio State taking a setback at Purdue.
  • Penn State and Ohio State have split the last four meetings, 2-2. The Lions swept the 2013-14 matchups with the Buckeyes winning both last season.
  • Three Nittany Lions are scoring in double-figures: Brandon Taylor (16.2 ppg), Shep Garner (14.1) and Payton Banks (10.8) with Taylor controlling the boards (6.0) and Garner also leading in assists (2.9).
  • Following the game Monday, the Nittany Lions will take part in the first Big Ten Super Saturday Hoops & Hockey Doubleheader at Madison Square Garden Saturday, Jan. 30. Penn State-Michigan hoops will tip at noon with both men's hockey teams facing off at 7 p.m.

The Buckeyes enter Monday night after dropping back-to-back games against Maryland (100-65) and Purdue (75-64). They have an overall record of 12-8 on the season, including a win over Kentucky, and a 4-3 league mark. Marc Loving leads four scorers in double-figures with 13.7 ppg. Jae-Sean Tate is the leading rebounder with 6.4 rpg to go with 11.0 ppg. LAST TIME VS. THE BUCKEYES
University Park, Pa. (March 4, 2015) -
Depspite leading by as many as nine points in the first half, Penn State fell short in a 77-67 decision to No. 23 Ohio State on Senior Night at the Bryce Jordan Center. Seniors D.J. Newbill (17 points) and Ross Travis (14) led Penn State (15-15, 3-14) during their final home game for the Nittany Lions. Newbill eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for his career; he has 2,011 points and is one of nine active DI players to achieve the mark. Freshman Shep Garner chipped in 13 points. D'Angelo Russell scored 28 points and coach Thad Matta tied the school record for wins in No. 23 Ohio State's victory over Penn State.

Jan. 29, 2014 (PSU, 71-70 ot):
Newbill hit a pull-up jumper over Aaron Craft with 2 seconds left in overtime, lifting Penn State to a 71-70 victory over No. 24 Ohio State and ending an 18-game losing streak vs. the Buckeyes.

Feb. 27, 1999 (PSU, 98-85): Joe Crispin turned in arguably the most explosive :50 seconds of basketball in PSU history by scoring eight unanswered points to start overtime as Penn State downed No. 10 and evenutal Final Four team Ohio State 98-85 in overtime at the BJC . Crispin ended the game with 29 points.

Feb. 28, 1998 (PSU, 89-85): The Lions completed the season sweep of Ohio State with an 89-85 overtime win at St. John Arena. Michael Redd had 32 for Ohio State, but Pete Lisicky had 24 points to pace the Lions in a comeback win.
